It is double delight for Stina Blackstenius as she has won March's Emirates Goal of the Month to go alongside her women's Player of the Month award.
Stina’s crucial strike to beat Chelsea and claim our seventh Conti Cup was deemed by 40 per cent of our supporters to be our best goal across all the club’s teams over the course of the month, as it was the one that yielded the biggest prize.
The Swedish striker came up huge for Jonas Eidevall’s team during a tense final at Molineux. With the game at 0-0 in extra-time and just four minutes away from the prospect of a penalty shootout, Caitlin Foord received possession inside a crowded Blues box and laid the ball off to Stina.
Despite being surrounded by a couple of defenders, Stina took a touch to get it out of her feet, and with a sight of goal she slipped the ball past Hannah Hampton in the Chelsea goal to spark wild celebrations from all wearing red in Wolverhampton.
“It’s been really important for me to play in these games, especially for my confidence and to feel like I can give something to this team,” she said last week. “Scoring goals, it feels like I am contributing something to the team.”
