Alessia Russo has called our 4-1 win in front of a record-breaking crowd at Emirates Stadium an "incredible day".
"I think as far as Sundays go, it doesn’t get much better than this," said our number 23 on the full-time whistle. "The performance was incredible, and we have the supporters to match it. We heard them from minute one and they stuck with us through the game. It was an incredible day."
Our forward bagged two goals in the emphatic victory against the reigning WSL champions - her first coming right before the half-time whistle courtesy of a Lia Walti assist.
"It was a perfect ball through and she did the hard work, I just had to finish it off! It was great to get two goals and the win today in front of our incredible fans."
After going 3-1 up at half-time, our Gunners kept their nerve in the second period and never looked in any danger of allowing a Chelsea comeback.
"I think it’s tough because as soon as you take a second off against Chelsea, they’ll punish you. We knew that we couldn’t afford to do that, so the message was clear at half-time that we had to stick with it throughout the second half, and not take our foot off the gas.
"We came out, we did that, and we competed right until the very end - it was a massive win.
"It was so enjoyable. I think you get so much energy from people with their passion. When you’re just doing the job really well, and that’s what we did today, everyone stuck together, and we got the job done."
Another record-breaking WSL crowd witnessed the massive win against our local rivals and Russo was glad to provide a show for the supporters this afternoon.
"I hope they enjoyed that one! I say it every single time I get interviewed and asked about our fans but they’re just the best.
"We hear them through every tough moment they’re there, and through every high, we get to celebrate with them so they’re great."
