We are delighted to confirm that Renee Slegers has joined us as assistant coach.

Born in the Netherlands, Renee joins following a two-year spell as head coach of Rosengard in Sweden.

Renee – who is 34 years old – succeeded Jonas Eidevall at Rosengard in June 2021 and led the team to back-to-back Swedish league titles in 2021 and 2022. Prior to that, Renee managed Rosengard B, having begun her coaching career at Limhamn Bunkeflo in Sweden.

As a player, Renee spent time in our youth academy at Arsenal between 2006 and 2007 before beginning her professional career at Willem II in the Netherlands. Spells at Djurgårdens and Linkoping in Sweden followed, while at international level Renee won 55 caps for the Dutch national team before hanging up her boots in 2016.

“It’s fantastic to be coming back to Arsenal as an assistant coach,” said Renee. “I talked to Jonas and he told me about the club and what he’s building – and when you look at the squad and the facilities, it’s fantastic to be here.

"I’ve worked with Jonas before and I know what he’s looking to create here. I’m really excited to contribute and I can’t wait to get to work with the players and staff.”

Head of Women’s Football Clare Wheatley said: “We are delighted to bring Renee to the club and believe she will be a valuable addition to our coaching staff, working under our head coach Jonas.

"Renee is a highly respected coach and has title-winning experience at Rosengard in Sweden, while we are also pleased to welcome her back to Arsenal following her time in our youth academy at the start of her playing career.”
