Academy defender Elian Quesada-Thorn has been called up to Costa Rica’s senior national team for the first time.
Costa Rica will face Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in friendly games across the international break, and our young Gunner now has the chance to make his full international debut in those games.
18-year-old Elian signed his first professional contract with us in July and has previously represented his country at under-20s level.
“Elian meets the conditions to learn,” interim coach Claudio Vivas said in his press conference this week.
“We have spoken with him and his father and he’s very excited to start training with us.”
Costa Rica play Saudi Arabia at Newcastle United's St James' Park at 8pm (BST) on Friday, September 8, and United Arab Emirates in Zapresic, Croatia at 5pm (BST) on Tuesday, September 12.
