Preview: London City Lionesses v Arsenal Women

London City Lionesses v Arsenal. 14 February 2024. Princes Park

Our Conti Cup defence continues this evening as we take on London City Lionesses for a place in the semi-finals.

After topping our group and remaining unbeaten in the competition so far, we'll be looking for a return to winning ways after our disappointing exit from the FA Cup at the weekend.

Last time around

Our Gunners came head-to-head with London City Lionesses just two seasons ago in another cup clash - this time a fourth-round FA Cup tie.

We dominated the Meadow Park clash with Beth Mead denied several times by good goalkeeping and a link-up between Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema proved to be the difference, with the Dutch international slotting home from close range.

Emma Mukandi in action for London City Lionesses

The Championship side, who recently parted ways with coach Carolina Morace, have a wealth of experience in their ranks, including former Gunners Dan Carter and Emma Mukandi.

The Lionesses topped their Conti Cup group, which was the only division not to include a WSL team, by picking up wins against Crystal Palace and Lewes. However, they have struggled in the league this season, recording just three wins from a possible fifteen.

Team news

Laura Wienroither in a training exercise

Emily Fox will be unavailable for the foreseeable after heading stateside for the Gold Cup with the US Women's National Team. Amanda Ilestedt missed out at the weekend due to illness, as did Vivianne Miedema with a slight knee irritation.

Elsewhere, Laura Wienroither is said to be progressing well in her ACL recovery. "She has started to join very early bits of team training, as of this week, so that's very pleasing," said Eidevall. "But that also means that there is no way she's going to return to play on this side of the international window and after that, we probably can give a more accurate update on where she's at."

Eidevall's preview

Eidevall on London City: "They're an experienced side, lots of WSL experience and international experience in the squad both from the players and the manager, so we expect as always a competitive game and we need to be in our best state to get a result."
