Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker were among the goals in a 3-0 win over Faroe Islands that edged Germany closer to World Cup qualification. Mertesacker opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, bundling home from an Ozil corner. The Gunners' new signing scored the second from the spot with 16 minutes to go before Thomas Muller put the result beyond doubt six minutes from time.
