Football games at Highbury... without the Gunners

Not every football fixture at Highbury has involved Arsenal. The Boxers v Jockeys game (a Highbury Highlight all on its own) was an annual event throughout the 1950s.

The same decade saw the ground hold the following fixtures: Metropolitan Police v Paris Police, British Olympic XI v England B Trial XI, British Army v Belgian Army, The FA Amateur Cup Semi-Final between Wycombe Wanderers and Corinthian Casuals, plus London v Berlin in the Floodlit Inter-City competition.

In 1938 there had been an England v Rest of Europe fixture. In the 1960s there was a game between the London Hilton and the Regent Palace Hotel plus a regular match between England and Young England.

The England team also used to hold training sessions at Highbury before taking on Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the home internationals.
