Frank Stubbs: Christmas cheer

13/14: West Ham 1-3 Arsenal - Lukas Podolski

Although it probably shouldn't be that way, us believers of the beautiful game all know deep down that Christmas can be a bit 'make or break' depending on our results. The Boxing Day pint, cold meats, cheese, chutneys and piccalilli all taste that little bit sweeter if things have gone well!

With the south being battered by the weather on Monday, actually getting to and from our home game was quite a challenge for many and I was no exception. Made it I did however, and from a largely forgettable game I am happy to take a point. For me, not losing was absolutely crucial, although a victory is what we all craved of course.

I have the utmost sympathy for all those who have found their Christmas break to be a total nightmare as a result of the weather and it meant our trip to East London and Upton Park could be just what was needed to take minds off the difficulties many have experienced.

I spent Christmas Day with fellow Gooners and the entertainment meant the journey to the game proved a little uncomfortable. I like going to West Ham away though and overall it is a fine day.

Despite dominating most of the first half, it looked at one stage that it could be extremely disappointing. Not going further behind during the short spell after conceding where our hosts enjoyed some good chances was crucial, and once Theo equalised there was only going to be one winner.

Theo's fine header (yes, a header!) From Poldi's inviting cross sent the visitors' section into raptures, the jostle being a fine way to try and wear off one or two of the Christmas excesses.

Poldi completed a magnificent 10-minute turnaround and the smiles and singing were large and loud.

Merry Christmas to Gooners all around the globe, I'm off to enjoy a few more little beverages!

You know it makes sense!
