Alex Scott has signed a new long-term contract with the Arsenal Ladies.

The 29-year-old has been a mainstay of the Gunners defence since returning to north London from a spell in the United States in March 2012.

A product of the Ladies academy, the full back helped Shelley Kerr’s side to the best defensive record in the Super League in 2013.

Last year Scott became the seventh player to reach a century of caps for England and also represented Team GB at London 2012.

Arsenal Ladies general manager Vic Akers said: “It’s great news for the Club that Alex has decided to commit her future to Arsenal. She’s a top player, and extremely experienced, so we’re very pleased.”

Scott added: “I’m very pleased to have agreed a new contact with Arsenal. I first joined the Club when I was a teenager, so it feels like home to me.

"We’ve lost some players this pre-season, but we’ve signed some very capable ones too, so we’re feeling good about the new campaign and can’t wait for it to get underway.”
