Bacary Sagna played the final 12 minutes and Olivier Giroud the final eight as France beat Ukraine 3-0 to pull off a stunning comeback and qualify for the World Cup. Mamadou Sakho set the ball rolling with the opener on 22 minutes before Karim Benzema levelled the tie nine minutes before the break. Oleh Anatoliyovych's own goal in the 72nd minute completed the win and sent France through. Laurent Koscielny was suspended for the game after being sent off in the first leg.

Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere both came on as second-half substitutes in England's 1-0 defeat at home to Germany. Per Mertesacker got the only goal of the game with a header in the 39th minute.

Thomas Vermaelen played 90 minutes as Belgium slipped to their second home defeat in four days, losing 3-2 to Japan. Everton's Kevin Mirallas put the hosts ahead on 15 minutes before goals from Yoichiro Kakitani, Keisuke Honda and Shinji Okazaki put Japan 3-1 up. Toby Alderweireld pulled one back but Japan held on for victory.

Nacho Monreal played 90 minutes and Santi Cazorla played the second half in Spain's 1-0 defeat to South Africa. Bernard Parker got the only goal of the game in the 56th minute to give Bafana Bafana a famous win over the world champions.

Nicklas Bendtner played an hour in Denmark's 2-1 win over Norway. William Kvist put the Danes ahead on 14 minutes before Marcus Pedersen equalised 12 minutes from time. But Nicolai Boilesen scored the winner for the home side in stoppage time.

England Under-21s 9-0 San Marino Under-21s, Tuesday, November 19
Carl Jenkinson scored for England Under-21s as they thrashed San Marino 9-0. Michael Keane opened the scoring before Raheem Sterling (2), James Ward-Prowse and Danny Ings (2) added further goals. Jenkinson got the eighth before Will Hughes completed the rout with 12 minutes remaining.
