Koscielny - Sometimes you have to dig in

Alexis’ last-gasp penalty secured all three points for us at Emirates Stadium, but Burnley definitely made us fight for them.

Sunday’s dramatic win saw us move up to second in the Premier League and, along with the result, Laurent Koscielny was pleased with how well we dug in right until the final whistle.

“It was hard because we conceded a goal [just after] the 90th minute and we knew we only had seven minutes to win this game,” he told Arsenal Player.

“We had one opportunity to get the goal from a penalty and Alexis scored. So 2-1, it’s important for our confidence, to keep our winning run and, with the results of the weekend, it was a massive three points.

“We played well for an hour and when we went down to 10 men we needed to show character. Not just play nice football but to help your team-mates, to fight together and to have a block like you need together.

“All the players who were on the pitch did the job and when you fight for your team-mates and for your club, you get the result in the end. I had one opportunity to score and I won a penalty. Afterwards, Alexis made the difference and we are all very happy because we wanted the three points.

“We didn’t just play well with passes, sometimes you need to work hard for your club, for your team-mates. You need to win your duels and the second balls, and I think we did it. We pushed ourselves more to have the three points and it’s good for our confidence to win like this.”
