For Granit Xhaka, 2016 was a year to remember - and it’s one he's determined to build on over the next 12 months.
After captaining Borussia Monchengladbach to Champions League qualification, the Switzerland midfielder made a summer move to north London and represented his country at the European Championship.
Now midway through his first season with us, Xhaka has established himself as a key member of Arsène Wenger’s squad and has set himself more targets for the New Year.
on his hopes for 2017…I hope to stay fit and healthy of course, that’s most important, and that we’re successful on the pitch. We have a lot of aspiration at the club, including the players, and we work hard every day to realise those aspirations. We hope that we’ll have success to show for those efforts come the end of the year.
on what would be classed as successful…What would be successful? Well, every club has objectives. We want to achieve those objectives, so we want to show that we have managed to achieve what we set out to do in the summer.
on personal aims for 2017…It’s always tough to say about something on a personal level. It’s important that I’m able to achieve something with this team, because it’s a team sport after all and that’s most important. My own personal objectives fall in line with that.
