'We showed our intelligence to win'

Alexis may have stolen the headlines with two goals against Bournemouth, but Shkodran Mustafi was more impressed with our collective performance on Sunday.

The Germany defender could only watch as Callum Wilson levelled from the spot in the first half, but was pleased with the way we rallied to secure the win after the break.

“I have been speaking a lot about individual qualities that we have in the team, but it’s games like today you win when you are a good collective, all the team,” he told Arsenal Player.

“Alexis did well and in the end he scored two goals, but Oli also came on and gave a great ball. Then there’s all the other players like Oxlade-Chamberlain who played well, Mesut and all the players we have up front.

“We are always capable to score. We defend and we have to make sure we give them less work to do, because if we don’t concede it’s enough to score one goal. But I think we did well to score three.

“When you are on the front foot and you get a penalty against you and they score, 1-1, it gives them belief again and then it gets difficult,” he added. “But we showed good character in the second half with sharpness and cleverness. We managed the game really well and then we scored the two goals which then gave us the three points.”
