Alex Scott visited Gamlingay Village College to take part in a girl’s coaching event attended by pupils from Biggleswade Academy, Burgoyne and Edward Peake.
The England international got involved with training sessions, before answering questions and giving students the chance to win prizes. The girls were then offered free tickets to the Gunners' upcoming clash with Notts County in the Women’s Super League.
“It was great to see so many girls playing and getting involved in football for the first time,” said Scott. “When I was younger I used to play with boys, so for girls to be getting more opportunities to join clubs such as Stevenage Borough - who provide female-only sessions - is a fantastic step forward. I am looking forward to seeing all the girls on Sunday and representing the club in future events.”
Arsenal and Stevenage Borough will hold follow-up sessions to maintain the interest shown by girls in the local area.
“We are delighted to be linked to Stevenage Borough Juniors as one of our WSL sister clubs,” said Ciara Allan, Arsenal Ladies development officer. “Events such as these demonstrate the club’s commitment to growing and improving female football opportunities in the area.
“Following the assembly there was a real buzz among the students and we hope that they will use this excitement to get involved in local football opportunities and come to experience an Arsenal Ladies game at Borehamwood FC.”
