Wojciech Szczesny was an unused substitute in Poland’s penalty shoot-out defeat against Portugal following a 1-1 draw. Robert Lewandowski put Adam Nawacka’s side in front in the second minute, before Renato Sanches fired home an equaliser. Both teams searched for a winner but could not could break the deadlock, and the game went to penalties. Jakub Blaszczykowski missed his spot kick as Poland were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
