Wenger on Rainbow Laces campaign

Arsène Wenger says sport can act as an example of “what society should be about”.

Arsenal will team up with charity Stonewall before Sunday’s game against Manchester United to promote equality for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people in sport.

The team captains will exchange a pair of giant rainbow laces before kick-off to show their support for the campaign.

“Sport is based on merit, not identity. No matter where you come from or what kind of sexuality you are, you just play on merit,” Wenger said. “If you are good enough, you play. Sport is a big example.
