Alex Scott says that Faye White is a “true legend” for Arsenal Ladies.

The England international played in defence alongside White for club and country between 2002 and 2013, and scored the Champions League final winner as the Gunners lifted a historic quadruple in 2007.

White celebrates her 38th birthday on Tuesday and Scott was quick to pay tribute to the former Gunners and England captain.

“I was brought up at Arsenal and Faye was the captain,” she told the Arsenal Weekly podcast. “Then I worked my way into the first team for England as well and Faye was captaining the international team too.

“She was the out-and/out leader, and what she did in an Arsenal and England shirt was just amazing. She’s still around the club as well and is a true legend for Arsenal Ladies.

“Her trophy haul isn’t the worst return! I think she holds a record. I’m sure Emma Byrne is the only player who is close to her, and then I’ll be a bit behind them. The amount of trophies just sums her up though and all the commitment she had for Arsenal Ladies.”

White now works as a marketing officer behind the scenes at Arsenal, helping to promote the women’s game, and Scott says that the players have an important role to play in building attendances.

“We’re lucky because we’ve always had a great fanbase here,” the right back said. “Our fans come out in all weathers, but off the back of the World Cup, the attendance levels have grown.

“We just need that to keep improving and that comes down to the product we’re putting out on the pitch, so hopefully they can come along to see some great quality football and us winning matches.”
