Fara Williams says she decided to sign for Arsenal because the club’s style of football has always excited her.
The England midfielder joined the Gunners from Liverpool on Tuesday, having helped her former club win the Women’s Super League in 2013.
Williams has long been an admirer of the Gunners' philosophy and she is looking forward to getting started with her new team.
"They have lots of very good players and Arsenal are a team whose style of football has always excited me"
“The ambition of the club, the state that it is in - it is fantastic and where women’s football needs to be,” she told Arsenal Player. “That decision was not difficult, it was if I could get everything right off the pitch and the club have done everything to make me feel comfortable. I’m excited to get started.
“We have got not just English internationals but other experienced internationals. They have lots of very good players and Arsenal are a team whose style of football has always excited me.
“Even before the WSL started they have been a leading team in the women’s game for a very long time - finally I can be a part of that. This could have happened for me 10 years ago but through many different decisions I decided to go a different way.
“It’s a very good technical team. It is a style that I play and I would really enjoy. I would fit into it nicely and they certainly have a nice style of play. In the women’s game they are one of the only teams that have a definite style of play. I look forward to trying to find a way of fitting myself into that.
“I’m a winner. There are lots of internationals here so I know they have a winning mentality and character anyway, but I certainly have that element to my game and there are competitive players here too so they will certainly bring that out in me even more.”
