Serge Gnabry played 57 minutes of West Brom’s Capital Cup win against Port Vale. Rickie Lambert, Claudio Yacob, Callum McManaman, Darren Fletcher and James Chester all scored in the penalty shoot-out as the Baggies advanced to the third round.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles was an unused substitute in Ipswich’s 4-1 extra-time win at Doncaster. Andrew Williams gave the hosts the lead before Brett Pitman equalised to take the game into extra-time. David McGoldrick, James Alabi and Ryan Fraser then scored to secure Ipswich’s place in the third round.
