Pedro Martinez Losa says Arsenal Ladies need to learn to start at a higher intensity after Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool.

The Gunners found themselves two goals behind within the opening 17 minutes, after Fara Williams and Becky Easton had scored for the visitors.

Half-time substitute Natalia Pablos Sanchon pulled one back with a clever volley on the hour mark, but Asisat Oshoala struck a third to inflict Arsenal’s first Women’s Super League defeat of the season.

"The second half had great effort, the players gave everything on the pitch and probably after our goal we deserved a little more"

“We need to understand that we have to start the game better, with better intensity,” Losa told Arsenal.com. “The second half showed what we are capable of doing.

“In the first half when you concede two goals like that, you can’t expect to be winning games or winning points. The second half had great effort, the players gave everything on the pitch and probably after our goal we deserved a little more. We deserved to score at least one more goal.

“It’s not just to give excuses, but it has been a bit difficult to manage the workload of some of our players. We have to pick the players who are 100 per cent available, so you have to trust them and that’s what we are trying to do.”

Losa gave Marta Corredera and Dominique Janssen their Arsenal debuts and was impressed with how his new signings fared.

“Marta was performing very well and Dominique was probably one of the best players on the pitch,” he said. “This is more about the collective than the individuals, but it’s not easy to come to a big club in a big league like the WSL, and then perform well.

"Both players showed good things, positives, and maybe they can grow from this.”
