Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis opened the Kick it Out mentoring conference at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
The event attracted more than 300 people looking to develop careers in the football industry and more than 90 professionals from all aspects of the game were on hand to give advice.
In his opening remarks, Gazidis told the audience about his journey from being a youngster dreaming of becoming a footballer, to training and working as a lawyer and then becoming Arsenal’s chief executive.
He said energy and passion, as well as skills, were critical to the development of successful careers and urged people to create and take opportunities that present themselves.
He also stressed that “inclusion and diversity” are a fundamental part of Arsenal’s work and that football is at its best when it shows “leadership” on this issue.
