Szczesny - We were strong under pressure

Wojciech Szczesny has praised his Arsenal team-mates for their strength under pressure after the 10-man Gunners beat QPR on Boxing Day.

Goals from Alexis and Tomas Rosicky gave Arsene Wenger's side a 2-0 lead at Emirates Stadium but Charlie Austin's penalty set up a grandstand finish after Olivier Giroud was sent off.

Arsenal held on to take three vital points and Szczesny was proud of the performance.

"It was always going to be very difficult when they scored the first goal, we knew we were in for a very hard 15 or so minutes"

"I thought under pressure in the last 10 or 15 minutes we defended really well," he told Arsenal Player.

"It was always going to be very difficult when they scored the first goal, we knew we were in for a very hard 15 or so minutes. I thought we did well, they didn't really create anything, so that was a positive.

"I thought we played well," he added. "We put ourselves under pressure with a sending off but I thought we should have finished the game much earlier than that.

"We suffered a little bit at the end because they put two players up front and put us under pressure. It was tough but in the end it was a very important three points.

"It's huge for us. We know we have a massive game in two days again, so we're going to have to recover very quickly. We have to be at our best again because West Ham have been brilliant recently. It's going to be a difficult game but I'm hoping for three points."
