'We adjusted and adapted really well'

Terry Burton gives his reaction to the NextGen Series last-16 victory at Inter Milan on Wednesday afternoon:

on the win…
In games like that, the conditions are the biggest opponents really, with all due respect to Milan. It is about trying to conquer the conditions as much as the opposition. The pleasing thing for me was how the players adapted as the game went on really. We started off where we were still trying to play in the normal way, trying to pass it and support in areas of the pitch where it would have caused us a problem if they continued to do it. But they adjusted and adapted really well.

on the character the team showed…
Football intelligence does come in different ways, we know what it normally looks like but today it was different. They had to do the right things at the right time to win the game and they did that, to a man.

on staying disciplined…
That was important, because if you go into a tackle slightly wrong then it is not only a possibility of the opposition making more of it, but the referee as well. That is why we are here, to experience these sorts of things.

on Nico Yennaris' goal…
It was a flash of quality and something like that was always going to win it. It was either going to be an error, maybe someone making a mistimed tackle for a penalty, or that one moment of quality, which thankfully we produced.

on the conditions…
We looked at the pitch beforehand, and once the referee says that the game is playable you just have to get on with it.

on hopes for the tournament…
We have our next game against very good opponents in CSKA Moscow. Let's see what that brings. I think they have one or two really talented individuals, as well as being a decent side, and we have had reports coming back that they will be one of the favourites for the competition. Let's see how we get on with that one and then take it one game as a time.
