Having found herself limited to opportunities off the bench so far this season, Beth Mead was handed a starting berth by Pedro Martinez Losa against London Bees on Thursday – and she didn’t pass it up.
The striker netted her first goals for the club, with two second-half penalties in a 7-0 win for the Gunners at Meadow Park, and was delighted with the display.
"I think it was a performance we needed for team confidence," Mead told Arsenal.com. "It was probably classed as a professional performance, people expect us to win these types of games and sometimes they’re the harder games that you come across. It was nice to get on the scoresheet.
“We are taking everything seriously and obviously it’s not been too great in the league at the moment because we’ve been frustrated with two results recently. But we want to put performances out every week and I think that this was probably showing what we’re about, what Arsenal are about and that we want to win everything.
"I think for me just to play regularly and as a team we want to win everything and hopefully we can get there. Obviously there are little things we can work on, but hopefully the international break is a good time for everyone to switch off from club football and come back refreshed, so hopefully we can come back and get the results.
"I’m loving it here, obviously it wasn’t easy when I first came, it was quite a big move for me, but now I’ve settled in the girls are really good. I love the training and the football and I can’t complain."
