Although we dominated proceedings against Leicester City on Saturday, clear cut chances were hard to come by, and Gabriel Martinelli’s goal right at the start of the second-half proved to be the difference.
It’s only the second time we’ve ever scored in the opening minute of the second half of an away Premier League game – the last was back in 1994 – and ultimately it proved decisive.
After the game the goalscorer spoke to Arsenal Media, here’s what he said….
On the game…
Yeah, it was a tough, tough game, but we did it, three points is the most important thing.
On controlling the game…
I think in most of the games in the league we are doing this. I think we need to keep going and be patient when we get in the final third. We did it today, we got the goal and the win as well.
On the goal…
It was a good goal, a beautiful goal, it was a great ball from Leo and I just put it in the back of the net, it was a good goal.
On whether he was injured afterwards…
Nothing happened, I'm fine!
On the clean sheet…
It's very, very important. The gaffer was saying to us this week that we needed a clean sheet and we did it today, I'm so happy for that.
On putting pressure on Manchester City…
I think so, but we need to think about ourselves and win our games because it's in our control and we need to do everything to get the points.
On the Everton game…
Yeah, of course. We go again, another game against them, at home and we'll go for it.
