Martin on ‘beautiful night’ at Arsenal Stadium

Martin Odegaard said it was a beautiful night at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday as we beat Lens 6-0 to advance to the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.

“It was a beautiful night at home at the Emirates in the Champions League,” he said. “A lot to play for and we started so strong, so it was a solid game from us.

“It was a bit mad to be honest, but we did so well. The intensity, the rhythm we played in, and what we did in the boxes was brilliant. We wanted to keep doing the same in the second half, but the game was a bit different, and it was a solid performance.

“We knew what we were playing for today, so we managed to do that and of course, we’re very happy now.”

After getting himself on the scoresheet, Odegaard handed our late penalty over to Jorginho to make it six different goalscorers.

“Yeah, I think it was good for him as well. As you said, different scorers all the way through today, that’s good for the team and good for the confidence, so I’m happy to see that.”

Asked how proud he is to be captaining the side through our Premier League and Champions League campaigns, Martin said: “I couldn’t be prouder, to be honest.

“It’s amazing to play for this club, and of course to be the captain as well, and represent the club. I love this team, I love the club and I love what we’re doing, so it’s amazing to be a part of that. I’m excited for what’s to come.”
