Loan Watch: Runarsson features in late comeback

Alex Runarsson was part of a stunning late comeback from Cardiff City on the weekend.

1-0 down to Preston North End in the 48th minute of the game, the Bluebirds went on to turn the game on its head with goals in the 96th and 99th minutes.

The Gunners loanee played the full match in goal as Cardiff went up to seventh in the Sky Bet Championship, one point behind Preston, who are just inside the play-off places.

In Scotland, there was a great result for Motherwell, who salvaged a 1-1 draw away to Celtic.

Mika Biereth played 78 minutes of the game, which saw Motherwell go eighth in the Scottish Premiership. It was just the third time this season that leaders Celtic had failed to win in the league.

Back in the Championship, it was a day to forget for Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Millwall. He played 90 minutes of their 3-0 defeat at home to Coventry City, which leaves the Lions 18th in the second tier.

One league below, Omar Rekik played 90 minutes of Wigan Athletic’s 1-1 draw away to Leyton Orient. The former are now 18th in Sky Bet League One.

In Sky Bet League Two, Arthur Okonkwo kept a clean sheet and played 90 minutes as Wrexham went back up to second with a 6-0 win at home to Morecambe. Wrexham are now just five points behind Stockport County at the top.

Billy Vigar played 180 minutes cross Eastbourne Borough’s two fixtures - a 1-1 draw away to Dover Athletic and a 1-0 loss away to Hemel Hempstead. Eastbourne are 20th in the Vanarama National League South. 

In women’s football, we had four loanees in FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup action last week.

Araya Dennis came on in the 71st minute of Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win at home to Watford, scoring the second goal straight away with her first touch of the game.

The Eagles are top of Group C with four points, while Watford are bottom with two. Laila Harbert and Katie Reid both played 90 minutes for the Hornets.

Finally, Freya Godfrey played 83 minutes of Charlton Athletic’s 1-0 win at home to Birmingham City. The Addicks are second in Group E of the Conti Cup with three points from two games.
