Loan Watch: Patino rescues a point for Swansea

Patino

Charlie Patino made sure that Swansea City came away from Saturday’s game at Huddersfield Town with a point, scoring a late equaliser in the 94th minute of the match.

After coming on in the 72nd minute, Charlie curled the ball into the bottom left corner to ensure that Huddersfield, who are 21st in the Sky Bet Championship, couldn’t close the gap on 18th-placed Swansea.

“I need to make sure that I’m working hard every day, doing my extras on and off the pitch,” he told the club’s website after the game. “I can only control my controllables, which is a term I like to use.”

Charlie had also come on in the 71st minute of Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat away to Leeds United.

Mika Biereth also got himself on the scoresheet on the weekend, the young forward registering his fifth goal of the season with the opener in Motherwell’s 3-3 draw at home to Dundee on Saturday.

Motherwell are eighth in the Scottish Championship following back-to-back draws.

Back in the Sky Bet Championship, Brooke Norton-Cuffy played 90 minutes of Millwall’s 3-1 defeat away to Ipswich Town before getting the assist for Kevin Nisbet’s opening goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland with a cross into the box.

The Lions are 19th in the league, one point above the relegation zone.

Cardiff City, meanwhile, are 11th and three points off the play-off places despite defeats to West Brom (1-0) and Southampton (2-0), which Alex Runarsson played both of in full.

Overseas, Kieran Tierney returned to Real Sociedad’s side for their 1-1 draw away to Osasuna, playing 74 minutes of that game as Sociedad went sixth in La Liga on 26 points.

Catalin Cirjan came on in the 87th minute of FC Rapid Bucuresti’s 3-2 defeat at home to FC Universitatea Cluj at the beginning of the week, before coming on in the 73rd minute of Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to FC Botosani. Bucuresti are now fourth in SuperLiga, six points behind leaders FCSB.

Returning to the Football League, it was a good week for Omar Rekik, who kept back-to-back clean sheets as Wigan Athletic won 3-0 at home to Fleetwood Town to go 14th in Sky Bet League One, before winning 1-0 away to York City on a foggy Friday night in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

In Sky Bet League Two, Arthur Okonkwo played the first half of Wrexham’s 2-2 draw away to Harrogate Town on Tuesday before going off injured. Wrexham are second in the league, five points behind leaders Stockport County.

Down in the Vanarama National League South, Billy Vigar came on in the 66th minute of Eastbourne Borough’s 4-1 defeat at home to Torquay United on Tuesday. Eastbourne are 21st in the division after the weekend’s game against Taunton Town was suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

Last but not least, Ruby Doe also got an important late assist for Ipswich Town Women. She crossed for Natasha Thomas to rescue a point in the ninth minute of added time in Sunday’s 2-2 draw away to Billericay Town.

Ipswich are fourth in the FA WPL Premier Division South, two points behind Rugby Borough but with a game in hand.
