Loan Watch: Biereth nets eighth goal in 11 games

Biereth 8

Three of our loanees were among the goals last week, starting off with Mika Biereth at SK Sturm Graz.

He scored the equaliser in Thursday’s 1-1 draw away to LOSC Lille in the second leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League round of 16, which Sturm Graz lost 4-1 on aggregate, before scoring the first two goals of Sunday’s 4-0 win away to Austria Klagenfurt to make it eight goals in 11 games.

Sturm Graz are second in the Austrian Bundesliga play-off Group A, two points behind Red Bull Salzburg.

It was also a great weekend for Giovana Queiroz, who scored a hat-trick for Madrid CFF in their 4-1 win away to Villarreal on Saturday.

Madrid CFF are now fourth in Primera Division, one point behind Levante and one ahead of Atletico Madrid.

Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand also got himself on the scoresheet last week, netting the equalising goal for FC Den Bosch in Friday’s 4-1 loss at home to Willem II, which left them 19th in Eerste Divisie, level on points with bottom-placed Jong FC Utrecht.

Returning to Spain, Kieran Tierney had a positive weekend after coming on at half-time in Real Sociedad’s 2-0 win at home to Cadiz on Friday, helping his side keep a clean sheet.

Sociedad remain sixth in La Liga, four points clear of Real Betis and nine behind Atletico Madrid.

There’s plenty still to play for at the top of League Two, where Arthur Okonkwo played 180 minutes and kept one clean sheet across Wrexham’s two games last week.

They drew 0-0 at home to Harrogate Town before being beaten 1-0 at home by Tranmere Rovers and are now third in League Two, where the top three teams are automatically promoted, but level on points with fourth-placed MK Dons, who have a lower goal difference and have played one more game.

Like Wrexham but in the Vanarama National League, Bromley are third and have a game in hand on fourth-placed Solihull Moors, who are two points behind, after Saturday’s 0-0 draw at home to Kidderminster Harriers, which Alex Kirk played 90 minutes of and Kido Taylor-Hart came on in the 76th minute for.

In women’s football, Freya Godfrey made a return from injury at Charlton Athletic, coming on in the 60th minute of Sunday’s 1-0 win away to Durham.

The Addicks are fourth in the FA Women’s Championship, level on points with Southampton and Crystal Palace and one point behind league leaders Sunderland.

It was a weekend to forget though for Kathrine Kuhl at Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League, the Toffees losing 2-1 at home to Aston Villa to go ninth in the WSL.

In the Championship, Swansea City have gone seven points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win at home to Cardiff City, Charlie Patino coming on in the 91st minute of the south West derby.

It’s just a four-point gap to the drop zone for Millwall, who lost 2-0 away to league leaders Leeds United on Sunday. Brooke Norton-Cuffy played 62 minutes of that game for the Lions.

Last but not least, Marquinhos played 73 minutes of Fluminense’s 0-0 draw away to Flamengo in the in the second leg of the Carioca Seria A semi-finals on Sunday, losing 2-0 on aggregate.
