Interview

Kuhl on the win, her development and teammates

Kathrine Kuhl made her first start of the season on Thursday night, starring in our 3-1 victory over Bristol City in the FA Women's Continental League Cup.

The Denmark international started alongside full debutant Kyra Cooney-Cross and Frida Maanum in midfield and delivered a promising performance, controlling play from deep while also looking to create in the final third.

We spoke to our exciting young talent after the game and this is what she had to say:

On a professional and mature performance…

Yeah, I think we did really well. We’re doing some great attacking footballer and controlled the game well. Of course, they had a moment in the end when they scored the goal, but I think we did really well overall.

On how we coped with making nine changes to the starting XI…

I think it’s the support from the team (that helps you). When you swap so many players, you’ve got to feel confident coming in when you haven’t played much and I think the team is really good at taking care of our players, so I think we did really well with the thought that we haven’t played together that much.

On how much she enjoys playing with freedom…

I just love being on the ball and that’s the good thing about playing at Arsenal, you want to be on the ball and control the game and I really enjoy playing with my teammates because they play me some good passes in midfield and it’s easy to play around with them because they’re really good players.

On where she feels most comfortable on the pitch…

I think I’m comfortable in midfield. I like to be the 8, to be both attacking and controlling the game, but I also think I’m still learning and I need to find my position and to find out where to be at the right times.

On the importance of patience and working hard for her chance…

I think training makes you ready to play and you’ve got to stay focused all the time, even if it feels like it’s far away from the starting XI or something like that. You just need to keep going and that’s what I’m trying to focus on because I know I get so much out of training and I train with the best players in the world, so that’s just the perfect place to be.
