Katie McCabe has won our 2022/23 women's Player of the Season award presented by Mastercard.
It was an exceptionally close supporters poll with the Republic of Ireland captain garnering 37 per cent of the vote, pipping Frida Maanum to the accolade by just two per cent. Lia Walti rounded out the podium in third place.
This is the second time that McCabe has received the end-of-season award, picking up the prize in 2021 after an excellent campaign in the red and white. This season, her highlights include a relentless performance away at Wolfsburg in the Champions League semi-final and scoring the WSL Goal of the Season with a trademark rocket against Manchester City.
McCabe's versatility as both a full-back and a winger on either flank makes her indispensable to Jonas Eidevall's side, especially in the wake of injuries to key members of the squad this season.
As Kim Little and then Leah Williamson were sidelined through injury, McCabe donned the captain's armband for the final two months of the season. Her experience, leadership and boundless determination were just what our team needed in the home straight to finish third and secure Champions League football.
