David Luiz hailed a “mature performance” as we drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Monday.
We fell behind just before the interval, but equalised when Pierre-Emerick auabmeyang beat the offside trap to equalise - only confirmed after a VAR check.
Our Brazilian defender spoke to the media after the game and this is what he said:
on the performance…
We have to be happy with our performance. It is never easy to play here. It is not easy when you concede a goal [before half time] but after that it was a great game, a proper Premier League game, a proper derby. There is still a long way to go, we are trying to improve the team every week and I think we did a great game, and a mature game here. It is not easy to play with maturity here, but I think we did that tonight.
on the VAR shout for Aubameyang’s goal…
Now with VAR you have to adapt, you have to play to the end. You can prepare for that in training. It is not easy, sometimes defenders will stop but you just have to adapt.
on being back in the top four…
Yes, of course [it helps]. We tried to get the three points, it wasn’t possible and it’s not going to be easy for teams coming here to take points.
