International round-up: Foord scores twice

Caitlin Foord celebrates goal

Caitlin Foord continued her stellar scoring form on international duty as she bagged a brace in a huge victory for the Matildas.

Our winger also earned the Player of the Match award for her fantastic display for Australia as they beat Sweden 4-0 on home turf in Melbourne. Steph Catley also played the full 90 and helped to secure a clean sheet for the Matildas. Stina Blackstenius, meanwhile, made a 57-minute appearance for Sweden.

Beth Mead made her 50th appearance for the Lionesses on Friday, providing two assists to help England to a resounding 4-0 win over Japan. She has now been granted personal leave for the next game against Norway on November 15.

Mana Iwabuchi started for the losing side and our midfielder will be hoping for a better result when Japan face Spain on November 15.

Meanwhile, Manuela Zinsberger recorded yet another clean sheet as Austria stormed to their first-ever victory over Italy. Laura Wienroither also started for the Austrian side, and was substituted after 73 minutes.

Fellow right-back Noelle Maritz played the full game as Switzerland narrowly lost to Denmark 2-1 on Friday evening. Swiss captain Lia Walti did not make an appearance against the Danes.

Our October Player of the Month Frida Maanum played the full game for Norway but was unable to prevent a 2-1 defeat against a lively French side.
