Rosicky's farewell match

'I'll be back to see my favourite club soon'

Tomas Rosicky called time on a spectacular playing career with an emotional farewell match in the Czech Republic, in which friends, team-mates and family members all took part.

Our former No 7 was back in his home town of Prague, for the friendly match between a Czech XI and World XI. The home team won 5-2, with Tomas's son coming on to score the final goal.
After the game, which was delayed by an hour due to a heavy downpour, Tomas spoke with Arsenal Media. Here's a transcript…
on his emotions…
Obviously it's very emotional. It was great, I have to say, that I could share this moment with all the guys who came to play in the game and be here with me, so I have to say thank you to everyone who came here and made this occasion very special.
on the occasion…
I have to say I enjoyed it. As you could see the rain complicated everything at the start, so it was very difficult for the people to stay here in the stadium for one hour longer, but it seems like they enjoyed it as well like me and the other boys. It was a great day today.
on Jens saving his penalty…
Typical Jens, it's no surprise!
on his son's goal…
I was actually expecting Jens to save my son's shot too! I'm glad he showed his human side as well.
on what it meant…
It was amazing, not only with my friends, but as well for my whole family, my son, my father, my brother was here, my wife and my mother-in-law as well. It was a special day, I enjoyed it, it was great.
on a message for the Arsenal fans…
I hope you will see me again soon. Obviously whenever I can I will come to watch my favourite club on the pitch, and maybe sometimes I can participate as well, so we will see.

Arsenal Legends v Real Madrid Legends - Tickets

The Arsenal Legends Foundation Match
Arsenal Legends v Real Madrid Legends
Emirates Stadium
Saturday, September 8, 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00

Our Legends will take on a team of Real Madrid greats home and away this year, in aid of both Clubs’ charitable Foundations.

We travel to the Santiago Bernabéu for the first game on Sunday 3 June. The two teams then come to north London for a second match at Emirates Stadium on Saturday 8 September, kick-off 2pm.

Robert Pires travelled to Madrid to make the announcement of this double header charity event and is expected to play alongside fellow Invincibles Freddie Ljungberg, Gilberto Silva, Ray Parlour, Sol Campbell and Lauren. Tomas Rosicky is also set to take part in both legs, together with a host of other star names.

The match in Spain will be played in aid of Real Madrid’s Foundation, with the return match being played in aid of The Arsenal Foundation.

Our inaugural legends match against AC Milan Glorie in 2016 helped to raise £1million to build football pitches around north London and internationally. This double header against Real Madrid will help us use football and the Arsenal name to reach more young people around the world.

Clichy - Tomas is an artist... a magician

Gael Clichy played alongside Tomas Rosicky for five seasons at Arsenal, and had the opportunity to do so again on Saturday afternoon in Prague.

The Frenchman was one of a number of ex-Gunners who lined up in a friendly match between Czech and World XIs, and was quick to praise his former team-mate's qualities after the game – both on the pitch and off it.
“Football is losing a great one-off player,” Clichy told Arsenal Player. “I remember when he signed for Arsenal years ago, everyone was excited, so it’s pleasing to be here. He’s a friend, football is a game and moments like this weekend are forever.
“I was really pleased when I got the text from him to play this game, because I think the first two years I played with him were the best of my career.
“It’s easy to be a nice guy in football when you don't have quality, but when you are a talented guy like him, you don't seem many guys like him – humble and talented – you don't see that often. He’s a special player and special man.
“Everyone calls him the Little Mozart and I don't recall any player being called something like this. Of course he’s an artist, people might have forgotten what type of player he was, but he worked for the team as well as being a magician up front. He was complete.”
