'I can’t say a bad word about Kevin Betsy'

Young defender Reuell Walters has praised the influence of Kevin Betsy and his coaching staff after he signed his first professional contract with us.

The 17-year-old defender joined us in November 2020 having spent time in Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, and he made his debut for our under-18s in a 4-3 win over Reading in March last year.

"There's a lot of stuff behind the scenes that I’ve been doing to work on my game off the pitch, and also around the training ground that’s helped me on the pitch," he told Arsenal Media.

"I can’t say a bad word about Kevin Betsy. Me and him get on really well and Mehmet (Ali) has just joined us as assistant as well and I’ve known Mehmet for a while now, so it’s been really good getting to see him again."

Reuell has become a regular for Betsy's side since the turn of the year and has set his sights on making his mark in the first team.

"My goal is definitely to try and break into the first team, I see myself being at this club long term, if I push on," he said.

"I try to not really base my game around anyone in the first team, but I do look at them for how they train and how they apply themselves every day, so that I can copy that and be the best version of myself."
