'I believe in this team and this squad'

The new Premier League season may not get underway until August 12, but Robert Pires is already counting down the days until kick-off.

The winger – who signed for the club exactly 17 years ago - is still close to the first-team squad and is convinced Arsene Wenger’s side have the quality to challenge in 2017/18.

"Of course Wenger is as hungry as ever," Pires told Arsenal Player. "It’s most important for him. He’s very disappointed [to have missed out on] the Champions League last season, because when he works it’s always to win something.

"He won the FA Cup, but I think for the new season we need to forget the Champions League. I am positive, I believe in this team, I believe in this squad. The first objective is to win the Premier League.

"[The Emirates FA Cup final] was a great performance. In England this competition is very important for the players and even for the fans, but I understand some fans want to win the Premier League.

"But the Premier League is very difficult, it is very tough to win, but this is the next objective for Arsene Wenger and for the club for the new season."
