Gold Cup: Canada and the USA reach semi-finals

Emily Fox on the ball for the USWNT

Both the United States and Canada are through to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup.

Right-back Emily Fox played the full match for the US Women's National Team in their 3-0 win over Colombia in the quarter-finals. A flurry of first-half goals ensured that Fox and company reached the latter stages of the competition in a comfortable fashion.

It was a trickier affair for the Canadians, however. Their quarter-final against Costa Rica was goalless in regular time and it took an extra-time winner from Roma's Evelyne Viens to make the difference.

Cloe Lacasse started the match for Canada and was incredibly close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes. Our number 20 slid in at the back post but was unable to make a good connection with Ashley Lawrence's cross.

Lacasse continued to threaten down the right wing as Canada had chance after chance on goal but it was arguably Costa Rica who had the best chance on goal during the 90 minutes, kept out by an incredible, instinctive save from goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan.

Goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo was an unused substitute in the tie.

Our Gunners will now meet in the semi-finals on March 7 (3.15am GMT), with the winner advancing to the final on March 10.
