'That goal was very unique in my career'

Many players have written themselves into Arsenal history - but Gilberto Silva holds a unique place in the record books.

The Brazilian midfielder was the first of our players to score in a competitive match at Emirates Stadium and he admits that the goal will always remain close to his heart.

"It was something very special and very unique for a player in my position," Gilberto told Arsenal Player. "It was the first official Arsenal game at Emirates and I scored the equalising goal against Aston Villa. We were in trouble in that game, they scored first and the game was very hard.

"Then, all of us were not accepting that result and we tried to get into them, to get a chance and it wasn’t so easy until I got that ball. The cross from Walcott, the flick from Van Persie and then I scored the equalising goal.

"It’s something very unique in my career at Arsenal and I’m happy for that and very proud."
