Arsenal in the Community

'Exploring Arsenal' for International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, our Community team led a special workshop at Emirates Stadium for female students.

'Exploring Arsenal' offered girls from across our secondary school programmes the opportunity to ask questions and hear about the different career pathways available at our club.

75 students attended and had the opportunity to network with 25 of our female staff members, to promote diversity and inspire more girls to pursue a career in football.

The day began with some words from our Chief Operations Officer, Karen Smart, who touched on her own journey into football, having spent 20 years of her career dedicated to the Royal Air Force.

Students then took part in bespoke career activities and had conversations with colleagues from across the club, including Communications, Media, Travel, Sports Medicine and Performance, and AWFC - all of whom share the same passion about women’s inclusion in the game.

Arsenal in the Community delivers Premier League Inspires across secondary schools and sixth forms in Camden, Hackney and Islington. PL Inspires supports young people who are at risk of not reaching their potential, to develop the personal skills and positive attitudes needed to succeed in life.

At AITC this is focused on four main programmes:

  • Scoring Goals - an employability programme which supports young people in their career aims
  • Strong Young Gunners - equipping year 7 & 8 pupils with the skills they need to excel in their transition to secondary school
  • Careers in Football - exposes young people to the range of careers that exist within the football industry and the skills required to pursue them
  • Social Action - supports young people to design and deliver their own social action projects
