Emery on Ceballos reports and Real Madrid

Unai Emery sat down to face the media in Washington DC on Monday, ahead of our final tour match.

The head coach was asked about his approach to the Real Madrid game and reports linking us with Dani Ceballos.

Here's a transcript from the press conference:

on the importance of a fourth win on tour…

Good afternoon. It’s going all as we prepared with the young players playing and showing their capacity with us, taking rhythm, taking confidence and working tactically with all the players in different situations. Tomorrow is the last game, maybe the most difficult match and another opportunity for every player to show his capacity. But for us the result isn’t the most important, the most important is to use players and have them taking confidence, taking minutes and to share minutes between the experienced players and the young players.

on young players and if they will play against Madrid…

We started to playing against Colorado Rapids with a lot of young players and progressively we are using less minutes and to share with the experienced players. It depends on the matches. Tomorrow, at the beginning I want to take more minutes with the players thinking about our progress for the first match against Newcastle. But also, we are going to use some young players at the beginning or during the match to continue trying with this difficult capacity against Real Madrid.

on if Willock could play against Newcastle...

It depends, but at the moment he is playing and he is progressing. I spoke with him last year, they started with us, one was Willock but really last year in the pre-season he didn't play and didn't use these minutes to take confidence with us last year. Progressively during the pre-season and progressively now it’s different. He feels better with the confidence and he feels better with the tactics that we want. He is playing the matches with a good performance and he can get minutes in the next match.

on Dani Ceballos reportedly being close to joining on loan…

We were speaking about the possibility to sign one player on loan and we have different names. The club was working on that. Ceballos is a very good player, I know him from Betis at the beginning and also at Real Madrid. He played very well with the under-21s, they won with his national team in this competition.
