Interview

Eidevall on our performance, Mead and Cooney-Cross

Jonas Eidevall was delighted with our performance and character against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon as we secured a 3-0 victory.

Frida Maanum opened the scoring after also netting against Brighton and Leicester City last week, before Beth Mead hit a stunning effort into the top corner for her first goal since returning from injury. She doubled her tally before the break too, converting from close range following some fine wide play from Alessia Russo.

We spoke to our head coach after the game and this is what he had to say:

On our performance…

Especially in the first half, I think we start really well, we have good decisions, good execution in our pressing. We moved the ball well, we played through their lines, and I think we deservedly win that half.

On our intensity compared to our previous outing…

I think every game is different, right? But I think what we learn from teams coming with a lot of intensity against us, we expected that from West Ham today and I think we could turn our previous experience into some valuable execution tonight.

On Beth Mead’s hard work to get to this stage…

I think you can see it's a really close-knit and together playing group and you can see the joy that everyone has for Beth scoring that goal because each one is ready to work so hard to get success for the other person. And I think that's the foundation of teamwork, that you want to work hard for for each other. Beth has been working really hard and it's a really tough injury to rehabilitate from, but we're all delighted that she's been back here on the pitch. She has been close in other games to get her first goal, And today it was really nice to see her get two.

On Kyra Cooney-Cross...

Yes, Kyra has so many qualities of course. We know it’s a big step coming from the league in Sweden to the league here in England, of course but I think she’s shown here in this block how well she’s adapted here early on and how important she is already for us on the pitch. It’s been really delightful to see.

On using the international break to reflect and grow…

That's what we always try to do here, to learn from the experiences. It's a little odd this one here because we have only come back for such a short time together, we will have two days practice and then we're going to play three games in six days, so we just need to be able to work really, really well during these final days that we have left before Christmas and make a final and strong push here so we can end the autumn season in the best possible way.
