Jonas Eidevall was pleased with a solid performance and a clean sheet against Liverpool in the Women's Super League.
In the wake of our Conti Cup win over Chelsea just three days prior, there was no cup hangover for our Gunners on a wintry Wednesday night.
"It was important with such a tight turnaround," said Eidevall, speaking pitchside after the game. "After the really good experience on Sunday, there was always going to be a challenge to refocus and give a strong performance here tonight. I'm very pleased that we managed to do that."
After we showed our attacking quality in the first half with a goal apiece from Stina Blackstenius and Caitlin Foord, Liverpool upped their game in the next 45. Their pressure required a different performance from us to see out the win, which Eidevall was equally pleased to see.
"We had to remain composed. We had to stay solution-orientated and calm, even when they tried to press us higher and with more intensity. So I'm happy we kept our heads cool because that's where you usually see at the end of a game like this when you have played so close to the game, that it's the mental fatigue and it's the decision making. But we managed that well, so I'm happy."
Eidevall was full of praise for his fellow Swede, Stina Blackstenius, whose two back-to-back goals indicate she's growing in form and confidence.
"It's been lots of hard work from her, starting on the training pitch and that's translated on this pitch as well. That's a good story."
Wednesday evening was also a great opportunity to see our young Gunners in action, as Victoria Pelova, Kathrine Kuhl and Gio all showed promise on the pitch.
"I think that's so important that we have brought in some really, really exciting talents who are already ready to play for us. But of course, we have hopes also for the future that they will become even better, because that's the potential they have.
"We need to invest in them. We need to trust them to come in and play games, so I'm pleased seeing the way that they have developed and the way I know they will continue to develop."
