Conti Cup Preview: Reading v Arsenal Women

preview reading

Our final game of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup group stage takes place at Reading tonight with a 7pm kick-off.

Ahead of the match at Select Car Leasing Stadium, we’re top of Group D with eight points while Reading are bottom with just two.

A win would guarantee our progression to the knockout stages of the competition that we have won more than any other team.

Our Conti Cup campaign

We began the group stages with a 3-1 win at home to Bristol City in November before securing a 2-1 win away to Southampton thanks to Amanda Ilestedt’s 92nd minute winner.

In December, we drew 3-3 at home to Tottenham Hotspur in a topsy-turvy north London derby, before winning the game 4-3 on penalties courtesy of Jen Beattie’s deciding spot kick.

Last time we met

It’s been almost a year since our last meeting with Reading, which we won 4-0 at Meadow Park in the Barclays Women’s Super League in March.

Kim Little opened the scoring inside just four minutes before Frida Maanum doubled our lead on the brink of half-time.

An own goal from Emma Mukandi was the perfect start to the second half for us, before Leah Williamson capped off a convincing display with our fourth.
