Caitlin pleased with support in 3-0 win

Caitlin Foord, scorer of our second goal in Sunday’s 3-0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion Women, was pleased with our performance from a defensive point of view as well as going forward.

“It was a tough one out there,” she said. “It took us a little bit [of time], it was a bit transitional which made it difficult at times. But we knew that if we fought it, the goals would come, and I guess that’s what happened as well. Obviously they came a bit later than we would have expected, but we’re really focused in wanting to get a clean sheet tonight and we did that so we’re happy.

“It’s massive for the defenders, but just the whole team in general. It’s something we really spoke about this week and really wanted to happen. I think it’s rewarding to see it happen, and I guess a bassline now as we want to try to keep moving forward.”

Caitlin’s goal allowed us to relax a bit more with a two-goal cushion with nine minutes remaining.

“Yeah, I think the press was really well from that side, and they just turned the ball over, I had space in front of me and thought I’d take a shot and it went in the back of the net,” she said. “So I’m always happy to see that happen.

Asked for a few words on the support from the fans, Caitlin said: “It’s massive. It’s a huge boost for us coming to away games, and it feeling like a home game as well to have them there in the stands. They’ve been amazing this season and I’m sure they’ll continue to be like that throughout the whole season. They definitely play a factor in getting the win today, and the whole season so far.”

Next up, we travel to Southampton in the Continental Tyres League Cup before hosting West Ham United in the WSL at Meadow Park next week.

“Yeah, massive games,” Caitlin said. “Again, games we want to get points from and hopefully keep clean sheets as well, so we’ll definitely look at this game and take the good bits out and the parts we need to work on, and hopefully keep building and moving forward.”
