Birmingham City v Arsenal - The Brief

Arsenal Women

For the third time in a week, we’re in Women’s Super League action when we face Birmingham City on Sunday afternoon.

THE OPPOSITION

Sat sixth in the league, Birmingham City have had a mixed campaign this year.

After a slow start to the season, which included a run of five defeats in six matches, the Blues found their rhythm and followed three consecutive wins with impressive victories over Manchester City and Liverpool.

Former Gunner Ellen White has been their standout performer with nine goals in 11 appearances, and our backline will have to be at their best to keep the England striker quiet.

LAST TIME WE MET

You have to go all the way back to the start of the season for the last time we faced Birmingham City.

On the opening day of 2017/18, we twice had to come from behind to beat a White-inspired Blues side.

The England striker gave that afternoon’s visitors the lead inside 12 minutes, before Jodie Taylor levelled on the stroke of half-time.

White then restored Birmingham’s lead but with the game heading into the final six minutes, Taylor Hinds struck before Taylor converted from the spot to secure a dramatic win at Meadow Park.

ONE TO WATCH

After bringing up her half century against Liverpool in midweek, Jordan Nobbs will be desperate to add to her tally in the Midlands.

The England international scored her 50th and 51st goals for us as we beat Liverpool 3-0 at Meadow Park, becoming only the 13th player to reach the milestone since the start of the 1999/2000 season.

With one goal coming direct from a corner and the other from a perfectly-timed run into the box, Nobbs gave an accurate account of her dynamism and showed exactly why she is one of the country’s leading midfielders.
