Gabi - 'I have to be patient and ready'

Gabriel Martinelli scored his first goal of the season to seal our 2-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday, netting just 90 seconds after replacing fellow scorer Bukayo Saka.

In fact it was the Brazilian's first Premier League strike at Emirates Stadium since January 2020, some 679 days ago.

And what a goal it was, expertly cushioning his volley over Martin Dubravka from Takehiro Tomiyasu's cross.

Gabi has had less than 15 minutes of Premier League action since the end of August, but told Arsenal Media after the game that he was patiently biding his time.

"Yeah I need to be patient as I always say, if I play 10 or 20 minutes, I have to play well and be ready to play.

"I love the fans, I’m so happy to be here, playing for this club and I’m so happy for the victory.

"We knew that the game was going to be hard, but we came prepared to the game and I’m so happy.

"To be fair I don’t remember! (the goal)" he added. "I think Martin played it wide to Tomi and I just thought ‘I’d go to the box and try to head it’ and I finished the ball. I’m just happy to score the goal."
