Danny Welbeck has had more than his fair share of bad luck since joining us – with two serious knee injuries ruling him out for more than 15 months over the last few seasons.
But the Arsenal forward is getting back to his best now and, after earning a recall to the England squad, he scored from the penalty spot as we beat AC Milan on Thursday night.
Hector Bellerin has seen how hard Welbeck has had to work to get back to his best, and told Arsenal Media how pleased he is for his team-mate.
on being delighted…
Definitely. It was important for us not just to go through, but also to win the game. We’re on a good run of form right now, so it was important for us to keep it up. With the support at home, it was really important for us. There was a little scare at the beginning because of a small tactical misunderstanding, but then we solved it in the second half. When we were solid at the back and defending properly, the goals just came.
on Danny Welbeck…
He’s a player who, even when he doesn’t score, always does a great job for the whole team with his movement and runs in behind. All the work that he’s been doing this season has paid off because he’s done very well these past few games. I’m really, really happy for him to find the back of the net.
on being confident about going far…
Definitely. I think we’re one of the biggest teams in the competition right now. The Europa League has one of the best groups of teams that it’s had in a while this year, so it’s going to be really hard. Of course, we know we have the potential to make it to the top.
