Pre-Match Report

Ladies: Chelsea v Arsenal - Preview

THE STORY SO FAR

We sit fourth in the WSL 1 Spring Series table, five points behind table-topping Liverpool.

We drew 4-4 with the Reds in our only home game so far this campaign.

However, Liverpool have played a game more and could be leapfrogged by both Chelsea and Manchester City should they win their games in hand.

So far we’ve won one of our three Spring Series games, with those three points coming in a 5-1 victory at Yeovil Town.

THE OPPOSITION

Chelsea have proven themselves as a force in the women’s game in recent years, a trend which shows no sign of abating any time soon.

We lost 2-0 at home to the Blues last season, but won 2-1 in our most recent meeting, courtesy of a late Danielle van de Donk winner.

Of course, we also recored a memorable 1-0 win over Emma Hayes' side at Wembley Stadium in last season’s Women’s FA Cup final.

LAST TIME WE MET

The last time the two sides met was on July 17, with Pedro Martinez Losa’s side staging a fightback to win 2-1 at Wheatsheaf Park.

The hosts took the lead when Alex Scott’s backpass was misjudged by Sari van Veenendaal and found its way into the net.

Vicky Losada levelled the scores just moments before the interval, flicking a header past Hedvig Lindahl from a corner.

The game was firmly in the balance until the 84th minute, when Van de Donk tucked the ball in from a tight angle to earn a valuable win.

ONE TO WATCH

Dominique Janssen has looked sharp early in the Spring Series, operating from numerous positions.

Janssen began the season playing in a back three, but has recently shifted to the left side of a back four, and has also featured in a more advanced role.

With her athleticism and assured technical ability, Janssen has proved valuable at both ends of the pitch.
