Pre-Match Report

Ladies: Arsenal v Birmingham - Preview

the story so far

We head into Saturday’s game off the back of a thrilling 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Wheatsheaf Park on Wednesday evening.

That result means we’ve now amassed six points from our four Spring Series games so far, placing us seven points - and one game - behind league leaders  Liverpool.

Danielle Carter tops the scoring charts for this campaign with five strikes, with Jodie Taylor having scored three.

THE OPPOSITION

Birmingham City have proven tricky opponents for Pedro Martinez Losa’s side in recent times.

Last season saw us fail in our two attempts to pick up a league win over the Blues.

Marc Skinner’s side also eliminated us from this year’s Women’s FA Cup at the quarter-final stage, as they embarked on a run which saw them eventually lose to Manchester City in the Wembley final.

ONE TO WATCH

Lotte Wubben-Moy has undoubtedly been one of the success stories of the Spring Series.

Losa stated at the outset of the competition that he intended to use it to blood new talent and to give opportunities to homegrown players.

Wubben-Moy has operated both as a holding midfielder and a central defender, performing with a confident and assured approach which has seen her grow into the side.

LAST TIME OUT

Our defence of the Women’s FA Cup came to a cruel end at Damson Park earlier this season.

Marissa Ewers struck in the 77th minute to eliminate us from the competition after we had repeatedly gone close to breaking the deadlock.

Carter went close on a couple of occasions, with Kim Little also thwarted by the Birmingham defence.
