Summary
Arsenal Ladies finished the group stage of the Continental Cup with a 4-0 win over Millwall Lionesses to maintain their 100 per cent win record in the competition.
The Gunners scored three times in the space of five minutes as Dan Carter, Rachel Yankey and Chloe Kelly all got themselves on the scoresheet.
Arsenal continued to threaten throughout the match, with Dominique Janssen adding her first goal for the Ladies 15 minutes from the end.
Setting the Scene
With a quarter-final spot already secured for the Gunners, Pedro Martinez Losa made seven changes to the side that beat Reading Ladies 2-1 on Thursday.
Emma Byrne, Marta Corredera, Janssen, Kelly, Carter and Yankey all started as Losa named a strong side.
Georgia Allen was a notable inclusion as she made her second start for Arsenal.
First Half
Arsenal started brightly, scoring three goals inside the first quarter of an hour. The first saw Carter’s header fly past Sarah Quantrill after Yankey beat her marker and delivered a pinpoint cross just 10 minutes into the game.
Yankey turned from provider to scorer when she curled a wonderful free kick past the outstretched Quantrill two minutes later.
Kelly got Arsenal’s third in the 15th minute when she capitalised on Quantrill’s mistake and smashed the ball into Millwall’s empty net.
Second Half
The second half did not start at the same high tempo as the first and it took until the hour for Carter to cut in from the left flank and hammer a shot over the crossbar.
The striker continued to threaten and midway through the half she curled the ball wide of goal after dribbling into the box.
Arsenal did manage to extend their lead 15 minutes from time, with Janssen nodding home her first goal for the club. Yankey again registered the assist, curling in a corner for the Dutch international to power a header past Quantrill.
